1. Visit the pumpkin patch in Aranjuez

Ready to pick your own pumpkin?

Head to La Huerta de Aranjuez for a proper autumn adventure in the countryside. You can head into the pumpkin patch to choose and harvest your very own pumpkin, then decorate it before hopping on a tractor ride through the fields.

There’s also a straw maze, a corn pit for little ones, traditional games like sack races, a giant corn maze, and plenty more to keep everyone entertained.

Your ticket even includes a roasted corn-on-the-cob and a drink, because pumpkin picking works up an appetite.

This activity is available from October 3rd through November 7th, with special Halloween editions on October 24, 25 and 31 featuring Halloween face painting, a candy table, and live country music.

This is great way to get out of the city and let the kids run wild in the countryside for a few hours.

2. Check out The Pumpkin Experience

Get into the spirit with a family day out at Ecoterránea’s Pumpkin Experience, in Toledo.

Wander through a real pumpkin patch and pick your own pumpkin to take home, decorate it, explore corn and sunflower mazes, and meet the farm animals.

There’s also a family treasure hunt, tractor and wheelbarrow fun, and plenty of autumn-themed photo spots. This experience runs from September through November 15th.

3. Participate in a pumpkin workshop

Get into the fall spirit at Finca Monjarama, an organic farm just outside Madrid.

This family-friendly pumpkin workshop includes a tractor ride or wheelbarrow trip to the pumpkin patch, where everyone can harvest their own medium-sized pumpkin, then hollow it out and decorate it to take home.

Kids can also visit the farm animals, enjoy a snack break with fruit, a snack and water, and play in the straw maze and slide. The workshop is available on October 25th, November 2, and November 7th.

4. Join the Pumpkin Party

Pumpkins, plants, local goodies and a little autumn creativity? Yes, please!

On Saturday, October 17, head to El Retiro for the XIII Fiesta de la Calabaza, a fun and free morning celebrating all things pumpkin and sustainable.

Families can browse a market featuring local, organic and handmade products and admire the entries in the annual pumpkin competition, including the biggest and weirdest pumpkins!

5. Go trick-or-treating in Malasaña

Get those costumes ready and head to Malasaña for some good old-fashioned trick-or-treating on October 31st!

The neighborhood’s family-friendly Halloween tradition turns the streets into a giant candy hunt, with participating local shops opening their doors to costumed kids.

Families can wander through the neighborhood from stop to stop, collecting treats along the way. It’s a fun way to celebrate Halloween Madrid-style, and a lot less work than trying to organize your own candy route at home!

My kids and their friends did this for two years, and it's really fun! Definitely start early, because every year there are more families participating and stores run out of candy quite quickly.

The details for 2026 have yet to be released, but keep an eye out and watch this space, as we will update the information as soon as it's released.

For kids 8 to 11, there will be pumpkin carving. Older children will enjoy one of Halloween’s most popular traditions: carving their very own jack-o’-lantern to take home, complete with a candle!

There will also be Halloween-themed games, challenges and songs, giving children plenty of opportunities to practise English while having fun.

The animated film follows a 300-year-old vampire who has been 10 years old forever and is desperate to leave his haunted house to make friends with a human boy.

Expect monsters, adventure, friendship, a mischievous bulldog and just enough spooky atmosphere for Halloween without giving anyone nightmares!

A fun Halloween movie outing for kids who prefer their vampires more adorable than terrifying!

Most Halloween shows and attractions are included with park admission, making this a great fall adventure for the whole family. Just remember: the children's passages are available until 4:30 pm, so plan your visit accordingly!

I did this with my kids when they were little and they really enjoyed going on all the rides in their costumes!

Celebrate Halloween with one of the most influential films of the silent era, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, a seminal work of German Expressionism directed in 1920 by Robert Wiene, a visionary artist who understood the world of the future as few others did at the time.

This is an occasion to let yourself be swept away by the suspense, the music, and the magic of cinema during this silent horror/fantasy film accompanied by a live musical performance.

📍 Real Teatro de Retiro

Whether your little monsters are after pumpkin patches, spooky adventures, creative workshops or good old-fashioned trick-or-treating, Madrid has plenty of ways to make Halloween memorable.

Pick your favorite plans, grab those costumes, and get ready for a frightfully fun October. And when Halloween is over, there's no shortage of things to do in Madrid with kids to keep the adventures going all year long.

Just remember: the only thing scarier than Halloween is hearing “I’m bored” after you've planned the perfect day!
